Big Wally formed in 1996 in Launceston, Tasmania. The orginal lineup included Steven Quinn on bass, Adam Langridge on guitar and Cory Blight on drums/vocals. Scott Targett joined in 1998 on keyboards, and Luke Christie replaced Quinn on bass. In 1998 Big Wally won the Australian National Campus Band Competition (the year after EskimoeJoe).
