Svartahrid was founded in 1994 by Istar and Forn. In June 2003, Illvastar, among others, broke into a crematory and desecrated several corpses. He then cut off the head of one of the corpses and brought it with him. He received an 18 month prison sentence for this corpse desecration. Ilvastar passed away in 2017.
